Recovering from Christmas

Well, we made it! Christmas was full of driving and traveling but it was a great time with family and friends. We went to Indy on Saturday, did the Young family Christmas, then visited with family and friends the rest of the weekend. On Christmas Eve, we went to the Sensmeier's house and Santa came. Addi was very excited to see him from afar, but had no interest in being close to him. She wouldn't sit on his lap but was more than happy to give him a fist bumb. Mostly, she picked her nose the whole time.

Christmas day we slept in, then went to Jay's aunt's house for more family time. We had already opened up our presents at home so life was relaxed all day Tuesday. Today we drove home and put together Addi's new kitchen, a gift from grandpa Gene (aka pop-pop).

All in all, great time as a family! Now we have to unpack, do laundry, and get back to the real world. We are all home until the 2nd and hope to relax some before going back to work!

Hope it was a great day for everyone else!

Merry Christmas!

Why am I posting on a Monday morning when I should be at work? Two words... cough and fever. Addi is sick, has been most of the weekend so I am waiting on the doc to open so I can get her in. This is one of those days where you wonder what's more important... work or kids. Obviously she will always win out but I REALLY need to be at work this morning, have a meeting later I have to prep for. But, she comes first. And I am lucky b/c I have good people who work with me who are prepping for the meeting for me.

This weekend we went to Indy for 4 days, finished up our shopping, visited with some friends, and relaxed. Addi stayed with my mom and apparently, they slept and layed around a LOT (perfect for a sicky!). But now, Addi is super clingy, which makes it hard to type!

Anyway, here is one of the pictures that made our Xmas card. For the final version, I cropped out my belly, just looked too big! But I do go to the surgeon tomorrow so hopefully there will be good news there.
If I don't post again before Christmas, hope it's great for all!

Another Big Milestone!

Early this afternoon, I could hear Addi trying to get into the bathroom. I went to see what she was doing and she said "Potty", I asked her if she had to go potty and she said "yes". We haven't really been potty training her, just letting her sit on it when she wants. So, I figured this would be the same thing.

Wrong! She sat down and Pooped! (Sorry if that is gross!) :) But she was VERY proud of herself and obviously, we were proud too! About 10 minutes later she said potty again and went again!

I'm sure when she is a teenager she will HATE me for this picture, but come on! Too cute!

First Real Haircut

Well, yesterday we finally took Addison for her first real haircut. I have trimmed her bangs before, but for the whole thing I wanted her to have a professional job. That way, if they screwed up, it wouldn't be MY fault. :)

Anyway, Addi did great! Just sat there, watching and didn't wiggle around at all. And they gave us a clipping of her hair, great for the scrapbook.
Still working on the Christmas card photo! We've tried the snow shots, inside shots... at this point, everyone will be getting LAST year's picture again!

Guess who loves ELMO!!??!!

Oh yeah, Addi does! We took her and her friend Jill (and parents) to Sesame Street Live on Sunday. It was like seeing the Beatles! There was crying... screaming and pointing... people taking off their clothes... (OK maybe that was just during diaper changes!)...
I can't believe how much fun the girls had. They were yelling, dancing, clapping... everytime Elmo left the stage Addi would say "Bye, Elmo!" and wave, then get super excited when he came back.
Jay and I had a great time too. For me, watching Addi was a great time. For Jay, he had a great nap during the second part.
All in all, a great family day!

Sleeping issues...

So, not only will Addi not put on her Jammies, but she WILL NOT SLEEP IN HER OWN BED!! Only with us.... We are trying everything, and nothing is working. At least she is good at cuddling (with us and Smokey!)!

New Christmas Card Pictures?

Not sure if Santa would think this girl is good or bad! But she looks funny for sure! My uncle fitted her with the boots and the other one I tried to pose her and asked her to smile. :) She is a GREAT smiler... right?

Giving Thanks...

So, this year we had Thanksgiving at our house with my mom, Lee, Roxi, Sabrina, and Uncle Phil. For the most part it was great, very relaxing and fun... Jay (as always) overestimated the amount of food we needed and if we are done eating turkey by February I will be surprised.

There is a lot to give thanks for this year... a healthy family... a new baby on the way... success at work... but today, what I am thankful for is that Addi is FINALLY starting to listen! After months of trying to figure out what will make her listen and trying EVERYTHING (time out, yelling, slapping her hand, pretending to cry...) somehow timeout is starting to work! She actually stays there (a big deal) and two, seems to act better after being in it!

If only I could stop laughing silently when she is in it... she just looks too cute!

Happy (Late) Halloween!

Halloween number 2 was much more interesting than Addi's first one. She LOVED her costume (actually wore it several times prior to Wednesday) and understood how to knock on doors. When the person opened the door, she would (sometimes) say "tra-treet" and "tank go" and reach into their bowl for candy.

Jay also had fun bad mouthing all the stuff Addi got ("Who gives pencils???") and tried to refused candy to a neighbor kid who made fun of his Purdue shirt. Next year should be even more interesting!

Ralph Family Update

First of all, and most exciting... We are expecting a new baby in May! We have told our family and are slowing telling our friends, but we are really excited! Now, if only I could stop the morning sickness life would be GRAND!!!
Second of all, my camera is broken, so new pictures of Addi are limited. BUT I did get this one picture to work in the basement with no flash, so it's pretty dark. Jay finished a storage room in our basement last week so Addi can start playing down there this winter when it's too cold to go outside.
Finally, in toddler bed news... Addi has successfully moved to the new bed! The crib is totally gone and she goes right to sleep in the new bed and sleeps all night. Whew! It's nice to have the space in our bed now, since apparently to me, Jay constantly smells like onions. Dang pregnancy Dog Nose!!!! (Oh, and we checked with other people... apparently I am the only one who thinks he smells, so we don't have some sort of weird problem on our hands!)

New Bed Madness

So, last Friday Addi woke up and when I went to get her, she was gone! Was she hiding under the covers? No. She was downstairs playing with the dog! We realized she is now too big for her bed and it was time to move her to a toddler bed.

Fast forward to last night. Guess who slept with Jay and I? Yeah, she wouldn't go to bed in her new cool bed. Tonight, I hung out with her and we read books in bed, then I finally made her lay down and turned off the light. She cried for about 15 minutes and now, an hour later she is still asleep! Fingers crossed....

The Writing Is On the Wall...

Sound ominous enough? It's not supposed to.... Well, maybe!
There is LITERALLY writing on my wall! Although Addi says it wasn't here, the writing only goes up about three feet. And it's in her very artistic scribbling.
Anyone know anything better than Magic Eraser to get rid of that??????

Back After My Hiatus!

I just realized I haven't posted anything here in quite a while... We have been super busy, last week I worked 6 - 2 and Jay worked 11 - 11, so we are just now getting back to normal.
And, the big wedding is this weekend so we have been trying to prepare for that! By prepare that means get something to wear for me and Addi. :)
More later, haven't taken any new pics of Addi so here is an oldie but goodie, just to make me smile. It's from last Thanksgiving when we went to visit Uncle E and Aunt Lisa!

I can't wait to read this book...

So this guy tried to live by the word of the Bible - the literal word - for a year.

I am fascinated. And pretty sure I couldn't do it. I can't even give up sweets for a week!

Trying on the Halloween Costume

Just got Addi's costume in the mail and had to try it on! I think it might be too small.. but she is TOO cute! Plus, she LOVES to ROOOOAAAARRRRR like a lion!

Addi's First Sentence

Jay called me today to let me know that while eating breakfast this morning (he is on 2nd shift this week), Addison said her first complete sentence. It was:

"Give Addi bite of pie."

Not sure why they were having pie for breakfast but it's good to know her language skills (as well as her bossy attitude!) are right on schedule!

Paci-Addiction!

Addi's doctor told us we should take away the Paci at 15 months. Apparently, we didn't listen... and now the Paci is a MAJOR addiction.

The picture is blurry but you can tell Addi loves them! We are constantly saying we are going to try to take it away soon.... but really, who likes to listen to her SCREAMING when she wants it????????

Ok.... just saw our future... We better learn to say no now before she is 18 YEARS instead of 18 MONTHS!

Go Colts!

Addi shows her love for her favorite team, the Indianapolis Colts! Thanks, Grandma, for the jersey!

Addi can now "hike" the football (it really just rolls between her legs) and says "touchdown" while throwing up her arms. Good girl!

It's getting COLD!!

It has been really chilly the last few nights! Addi and I went out to play at a neighbors house on Friday night and couldn't stay long because it was SO windy! But, she did get a few good trips down the slide and for the first time went on the big kids swing! She was very proud of herself (I think she looks a little smug in this picture!)

We had a busy weekend - my dad came to visit from North Dakota. Then, Jay woke up today and felt awful... He hasn't left the couch all day.

I am convinced he has West Nile. But, I have always been a slight hypochondriac at times. Not that I have heard that before. :)

Time for a new week!

Addi is a GREAT pet mom!

Addi loves her pets. As you can see here, she brought her cat and dog a snack! She even repeatedly put the bowl up to their mouth so they could eat!

Tonight she dragged this same dog over to Smokey's bowl and tried to get him to eat. I think she really thinks they are eating!

Ending Summer Nights at the Park

The last few nights it really has seemed like summer is coming to an end (sad face). Jay has been on second shift this whole week covering for another supervisor so it's been just me and Addi every night.
SPending time at our neighborhood park is definately one of our favorite parts of our new neighborhood. With the pond, Addi gets to not only swing, climb, and run, but also look at "fiss-ies!"

Just what you love to see in a grocery store!

Tonight we went to Sam's club to pick up some diapers, toilet paper.. just the basics. Addi picked a few extra special things just for herself.

Super gross! But not too gross to take a picture!

My baby is growing up!

I have been saying for months that time really flies... but for some reason, in the last two or three weeks it has REALLY been on my mind. Addison is GROWING up. She is so much bigger, smarter, funnier, with more personality than ever before!

Friday morning, Jay finally got the flu too. He was up sick and Addi woke up. He went downstairs and she followed him, then asked him to start her Elmo movie. So he did. At 4:30 a.m.!!! He was so out of it that he came to bed... I heard the movie going and went downstairs to get her and she was half out of it, watching Elmo! Man she loves him.

Yesterday we were in the garage and I dropped something. For a second I thought, gotta pick that up before Addi puts it in her mouth! Instead, she walked over, picked it up, and put it back on the shelf. SO BIG!!!!!!!

Today, Addi was pushing buttons... climbing on the kitchen table and just trying to get our attention anyway she can. And it was easy to get frustrated but for some reason it didn't stress me out. Knowing in a few months she will probably not be doing the same things anymore makes it all worth it (standing on the table and all!)

He never saw it coming....

poor Elmo.....
He really never saw it coming. One minute, he was sleeping next to Addi.... next minute, he's covered in baby barf.
We all woke up last night around midnight with Addi crying. Turns out she has the flu. Poor thing. Really, is there anything in life sadder than a baby crying, sick? They don't understand... just want to feel better... and as much as I love her and will do anything for her, hugging her barf-covered body and stroking her pukey hair really isn't that great.
So, Addi and I are home today. Lots of Elmo VIDEOs (Elmo is in the washing machine) and rest. Life is never dull!

Blogging....

Wow.... How tired can one family be?????

This weekend we hosted the first of two big parties this month. Yesterday, we had a couple's shower for Jay's little brother Adam and his fiance Molly. 30 adults... 16 kids... DAYS of prepping our house! Cleaning, organizing, yard work.... somehow everything seemed dirtier this week!

Jay's sister made the majority of the food prior to heading over to our house but still, we prepped food on Saturday for FIVE hours! Overkill we all thought but everything turned out so great that it's hard to say it was a waste. It rained all day but was nothing short of beautiful last night. I really had a great time, loved entertaining in our house and having family around. I just hope Molly and Adam liked it.

Now, Sunday night, Jay, Addi and I have barely moved all day. SOoooo tired... we watched movies and had a lot of cuddle time. But one thing happened that made it really really seem like Addi is growing up... she walked in while Jay and I were starting a movie, handed me an Elmo video, and pointed to her playroom. I set her up in there and she watched the whole thing! She is such a big girl!!!!!
